.gucci SS’16.

I know it was a while ago that Gucci had its spring-summer 2016 runway show in Italy but I’ve been a bit busy and have only now gotten to have a proper look at the collection in all its glory. The reason I was first drawn to this collection from Gucci in particular was due to actually getting the privilege of handling on while interning, so amazing! The photos that were taken of the Gucci clothes were amazing, I had the pleasure of seeing the two of the beautiful dresses in action. One heavily patterned long sleeve dress placed expertly upon an equally heavily patterned rug to produce a truly amazing still life, as well as a gorgeous shot of a long vintage style dress on a beautiful blonde model.

But back to the actual collection and all its quirky sequinned glory. It’s safe to say this collection is vastly different from your typical Gucci and all its previous collections. If it was to be described in one word I would have to say fun! It’s incredibly fun looking, whether it be the long flowing vintage inspired dresses, the bright and patterned suits for the men, or the sequins that seem to have made there way onto more than 2/3 of the collection, all of it is colourful parade that you just know would make your day brighter if you were in the clothes. And that’s something I don’t feel often about a collection, but it just makes me smile! It’s a collection daring you to be colourful, allowing you to be colourful! As colourful as you could possibly be with an added little bit of vintage inspiration, this collection couldn’t be better!

.discovering rich peasant.

It’s time to take a look at a new, ‘undiscovered’ brand. And it’s name is Rich Peasant Apparel, and man do they have a story to tell. The brand was established last year and is only sold online, though it does pop up at certain skating events also. They are a men’s street wear brand that women can fall in love with too. Their campaigns involve skaters wearing the clothing and athletic looking women in bright, graffitied alleys in Melbourne. All screaming the relaxed, street wear aesthetic that they have tried and succeeded to grasp. They are about more than just the clothes though, they also support local skaters by attending events with a pop up store and providing prizes for competitions held at certain skate parks. This shows their support of the local community, which is crucial to the success of their brand due to the clientele they are aiming their brand towards. They have a small following on Instagram but have made a great connection with their followers and customers. I love the fact that they will post photographs of customers who have sent in pics of them loving and wearing the Rich Peasant brand, to me it shows how much they care about their brand.

Now let’s get down to exactly why the brand is called ‘Rich Peasant’.

The story starts in the year 1788, when the first fleet were docking upon Australian soil. To help the first fleet colonise the country they bought with them 736 convicts, known to the wealthy of the time as “peasants”. Out of those 736 convicts, only one lone peasant stood out, his name was Klancey!

Klancey sported a dapper stolen top hat, monocle and gold tooth. He would steal from the rich, and you guessed it, gave back to the peasants. Soon he became famous among the other peasants and was know as the ‘rich peasant’. Klancey who can rightly be referred to as an O’G ‘Robin Hood’, one day just vanished…

Until this day many people still claim to have seen Klancey’s top hat walking through the colourful streets of Melbourne. And now through Rich Peasant Apparel the legend of Klancey lives on!

So head over and check out their website at richpeasant.com.au and maybe buy a thing or two from an Australian brand with an Amazing story behind its name. Here are some great pictures taken mainly from Rich Peasant’s Instagram.
